Modern Love

I found this column in the New York Times called Modern Love.
Its all different stories regarding love. It is great. I couldn't stop reading them today.

Check it out here:

Hopefully you will enjoy them too. I think we are all trying to understand love...

Adirondacks

Shawn and I are getting ready to go hiking next week in the Adirondacks. I feel a little nervous, not as nervous as I was last year though. I am hoping that since I survived last year, I can survive again.

For those of you who don't know, there are 46 peaks in the Adirondacks. You can see a list of the peaks here: http://www.adk46r.org/listf.html If you hike all 46 peaks you are known as a 46er. Maybe someday I will reach that feat. :) Last year I hiked a total of 5 of the peaks.

This year, we are doing the Seward Range, which has four peaks: Seward Mtn., Mt. Donaldson, Mt. Emmons and Seymour Mtn.

Its nice to go hiking in the Adirondacks and reconnect with nature since we live in NYC. It is great to take a break from computers, cell phones, TV, the internet, ect. It feels so nice to "unplug" while we are away from the daily stresses of work and everyday life.

Above are some pictures of me hiking last year and my pack that I carried in for the beginning of the hiking and camping trip. Wish me luck this year!

Travel Travel Travel...

I have been on the go non-stop for quite some time it seems. I have been to Vermont, Northampton/Amherst, Mass., Baltimore, Michigan, Cape Cod, New Jersey, all in the last few months. Pretty much every weekend since the end of May I have been traveling somewhere, and its been a lot of fun.

I think this much be my year of travel, it seemed to start when I went to Alabama for my cousins wedding. I still have to look forward to hiking in the Adirondacks, going to Shawn's cousins wedding in South Carolina and of course my October trip to Italy. I am also planning on getting out to Chicago at some point this fall to see my uncle there.

In the spirit of travel, here are some quotes that I found:

“There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreign.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

“Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life." – Jack Kerouac

“No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow.” – Lin Yutang

“Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I took the one less traveled by.” – Robert Frost

Love Poem

My friend Karen got married recently and I loved one of the poems that she included in her wedding. It was so unique and to me it felt like a very honest real poem, so I wanted to share it with you all on here. I liked this poem too because it made me think of my own sweetheart, if this poem is what a marriage is, then I think I am already married haha. Congrats to Karen and Ryan for getting everything they wanted!

I Want By Kim Konopka

I want
to shove my clothes
to one side of the closet,
give you the bigger half.
Quietly I'll hide most of my shoes,
so you won't know I have this many.

I will
rearrange furniture to add more,
find space on my shelves for your many books,
nail up the placard that says
poets do it, and redo it, and do it again.

I want
to share a laundry basket,
get our clothes mixed up,
wait for the yelling
when my reds run wild
into your whites
turning them a luscious pink,
your favorite color of me.

I will
move my pillow
to the other side of the bed,
lay yours next to mine,
your scent on the fabric
always near me,
even on the nights you're away.

I will
buy a new bureau to hold your
thousand and one black socks,
find a place for all those work boots,
the ones I refer to as big and ugly.

I want
more pots and pans to wash,
piles of them leaning high
from late night meals
cooked naked and drunk,
red wine pouring into
a sauce of simmering
tomatoes, garlic, and olive oil,
kisses bitten between bites,
and platefuls of our late hours,
stacking up into dawn.

I want
to stock cupboards, closets and pantry
fill the house with us.
I want to gain weight with you
because our love,
our love makes me fat.
